Sheboygan or Cheboygan?? I was confused too, I thought that there was only one, but apparently, if you are in Wisconsin, you are in Sheboygan (emphasis on the SH) and if you are in Michigan, you are in Cheboygan (emphasis on the CH). Pronounced almost the same way… just the beginning is a bit different!
Below is a brief explanation of “what Cheboygan, Michigan is” from the Cheboygan Area of Chamber of Commerce:
For over 130 years Cheboygan has been the gem of Northern Michigan and it means something different to each person that experiences it. What does it mean to you? If you like the water we have the 40 mile Inland Waterway for you to explore or the beautiful and historic Straits of Mackinaw. If you love to travel the trails, in any season, we have more miles of trails than anywhere else in Michigan.
If you are into hunting, fishing, camping, birding, fall color viewing, scuba diving, snorkeling or anything that’s gets you out in nature, let us be your base camp and explore all that Northern Michigan has to offer. We are, of course, Pure Michigan
Below is a brief explanation of “what Sheboygan, Wisconsin is” from Visit Sheboygan:
Dubbed by the surf crowd as the “Malibu of the Midwest,” Sheboygan is a freshwater haven, an outdoor lover’s playground, and a fisherman’s sunrise glory. Join us for a mancation, famcation, staycation, relaxation-cation, or a pampering girl’s getaway. (We’ve got plenty of spas and a great wine selection, too!)
The City of Sheboygan rests on the Lake Michigan Shores about half way along the Wisconsin’s eastern seaboard on Interstate I43. Sheboygan is just 55 miles north of Milwaukee, 60 miles south of Green Bay, 110 miles northeast of Madison, 140 miles north of Chicago and 340 miles from Minneapolis.
Our first port of the Willert Wanderlust 2019 boat trip was Sheboygan, Wisconsin. We decided to hit up Cheboygan, Michigan later on in our trip!
Once we docked at Sheboygan, our first stop was at the 8th Street Ale Haus for dinner. I ordered a Margherita flat bread for dinner, which was AWESOME!!! My flat bread had heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, chopped basil, garlic oil, and balsamic reduction, it was delicious.
After dinner, we walked around downtown Sheboygan and decided to walk down the docks as well.
While walking around downtown, we happened upon a really neat photo backdrop, which I HAD to pose with 🙂 PLEASE check it out below!!
We also walked past this cool store, called Freaktoys. They showcased in the storefront, a Baby Groot from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Harley Quinn from “Batman,” and Deadpool from, well “Deadpool” :)! We continued to walked to the docks and boy was the water HIGH!! According to Fox News 6: “The Sheboygan businesses push ‘panic button,’ concerned about rising Lake Michigan” ; confirming that a lot of the Sheboygan businesses were having trouble staying open with the record high water levels.
We are leaving Sheboygan and headed to Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay. Not sure where we are headed after that, but I am sure it is going to be a fun trip!!
That’s it for now
